Breaking: Irish land dynamic wide receiver

2018 New Orleans wide receiver, Lawrence Keys III, has committed to Notre Dame. From the beginning I think a lot of people pegged Keys to LSU since he’s right in their back yard. But after adding several wide outs and the current players on their roster, the Tigers just didn’t have room to add Keys to the class, even if they wanted to. He kept his options open knowing that about the LSU roster for quite awhile and ended up becoming really close with the Irish staff after the offer came almost a year ago.

Keys and his mother visited South Bend for an official visit on January 19th and clearly that pretty much locked it up for Notre Dame. Houston was also a big threat with it being closer to home and Texas came in the picture very late and made a strong push but the opportunity he’ll have at Notre Dame, I think was impossible to pass up. Keys holds 34 offers from Texas, Georgia, Florida and others.

What Keys will bring to South Bend:

The 5’11 160 pound receiver is very quick. He creates a ton of separation with defenders and because of his decent height can really match up with anyone on the outside. Obviously putting on weight will be key for him to become a very good college player but I don’t think that’ll be an issue once he gets in the strength program. I’d assume Notre Dame would like to keep him at the slot position though. With St. Brown leaving early, Stepherson’s off field issues and CJ Sanders transferring he should be able to fill that hole with the receivers and add solid depth. He’s going to be very productive in the quite screen game but also he’ll be able to get open over the top of the defense with his speed. He has great hands and catches everything that comes his way. The only knock he has is pretty much his size. But that hasn’t stopped him yet. He fits perfectly in Chip Long’s offense and I think he knows it.

The staff did a incredible job of making sure to stay on top of his recruitment and make sure he knew he was a priority for the staff all along. Getting a kid for Louisiana is never easy but the staff pulled it off. With Keys now in the class, joining the receiver group of Micah Jones, Kevin Austin Jr., and Braden Lenzy, those four should wrap up the receiver class. They all complement eachother extremely well and that’s exactly what the staff wanted. Make sure to follow @IrishDaily10 for the latest updates. It’s been a really good day for the Irish on National Signing Day.
