Breaking: Notre Dame lands cornerback DJ Brown

2018 cornerback from Washington DC, DJ Brown, has committed to Notre Dame. Before the early signing period, it might of been thought that the Under Armour All-American was all but a sure bet to join the Irish class, but with prospects higher rated on the board for ND they had to hold off on his commitment. When that happened I think DJ had to move on, as did the staff, and committed to Virginia.

After other prospect fell through, which happens every year in recruiting, the contact picked back up with Brown and he set up and took a late official visit just last weekend. Obvisouly the opportunity of possible early playing time, along with the academics really pushed this over the edge for Notre Dame. He decommitted from Virginia right after his official visit to South Bend and from there he was Notre Dame’s to lose. Brown is also former teammates of redshirt freshman DE Kofi Wardlow. DJ holds 29 offers from Ohio State, Clemson, Stanford and more.

What does DJ Brown bring?

The 6’1 190 pound cornerback brings size and has a good feel for his postion. He’s not a burner and he won’t wow you with athletism. If I were to compare him to someone in terms of that, I would say he’s similar to Julian Love. His backpedal is solid and he’s able to track the ball well. What I’ve seen on film, that I love, is his physicality as a tackler.

All in all, he’s a solid cornerback that can really blossom into something special if he continues to work on his footwork and speed. One thing for sure, he never gives up on a play and at the cornerback position that’s what you want to see. With the staff filling in the need at cornerback, that should wrap it up for the remainder of the class at that position, unless there’s a late surprise on Signing Day. It looks like the players the staff were expecting on signing day are all going to end up joining the Irish. Make sure to follow @irishdaily10 for the latest Notre Dame updates.
