Notre Dame offered the two-way standout early this afternoon. Golden Domer Daily takes a closer look at Spencer Webb.
Tight End/Defensive End Spencer Webb, 6’5, 235; Sacramento (CA) Christian Brothers High School.
247: Four Stars, No. 249 Overall, No. 8 Tight End, No. 38 player in California
Rivals: Four Stars, No. 245 Overall, No. 10 Tight End, No. 36 player in California
ESPN: Three Stars, No. 25 Tight End, No. 77 player in California
Oregon (Commit), Cal, Colorado, Florida State, Oregon State, UCLA
Notre Dame Connection
Webb has been an Oregon commit since April, but chose not to sign during the early signing period. As Notre Dame fans know with Braden Lenzy, many Oregon commits wanted to keep their options open with the unexpected departure of Willie Taggart to Florida State. Obviously, Webb knows Lenzy fairly well and that could certainly play in Notre Dame’s favor. Webb is also a tremendous student-athlete, boasting several offers from Ivy League universities.
How He Fits
It is possible Notre Dame wants Webb at tight end. Aliz’e Mack’s suspension for the bowl game, and Brock Wright’s shoulder injury are factors to keep in mind. With that said, Notre Dame only has one pass rusher signed this cycle and adding another would be a huge jolt to the class. Webb demonstrates exceptional ability on both sides of the ball (61 catches for 1,063 yards and 23 TDs on offense, and 48 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 8 sacks on defense). Notre Dame wants to add play-makers to this class, and Webb would add a ton of versatility and skill to the roster.
