2018 offensive lineman out of Arkansas, Luke Jones, has committed to Notre Dame. Jones had been a pledge to the razorbacks for quite awhile now but after the firing of the head coach and a ton of changes around the program, I think it was the final straw that lead to him flipping to the Irish in the end. Clearly the hiring of former SMU Head Coach Chad Morris put more thoughts in his mind to stick it out for his “home team” but the opportunity to play for one of the best lineman coaches is football and to play on a stage like Notre Dame was the final push. Not signing during the early signing period while committed to Arkansas was pretty telling too. Jones holds 18 offers from Arkansas, Oregon and more.
What does Luke Jones bring?
The 6’5 295 pound offensive lineman is a very athletic tackle. He has primarily played tackle in high school but wouldn’t mind switching positions if needed. I think versatility is why Hiestand is so high on him. He has good speed for a big man and is good in open space at the second level. He’s very aggressive and really good with his hands which will always benefit in pass protection and blocking. I think overall he is a solid prospect and is a needed tackle for the Irish. Obviously Hiestand has been very high on him, so clearly he sees someone who can be special.
The class now has three offensive lineman, with Luke Jones joining signees Cole Mabry and John Dirksen. They are looking to add one more stud, specifically highly ranked OL Nicholas Petit-Frere. With 22 commits now to the recruiting class, look for the remaining spots to be picked carefully, seeing the class will likely be no more than 25 players, which would mean 3 spots remain.
