SHOCKER: Irish land talented cornerback Noah Boykin

2018 cornerback from Washington DC, Noah Boykin, has commitment to Notre Dame. Boykin was a Maryland commit for several months and I don’t think he saw that changing, but once the Irish started showing heavy interest in him and eventually offering him a scolarship in mid Septmember, then visiting South Bend in October for an official visit, it completely changed. After that he started getting more attention, specifically from Florida. A lot of people were almost positive he would be a gator in the end but the irish staff would not give up. They put in a ton of work after the early signing period to grab this big time talent and leading up to today.

The Irish have a big need for his position and I think that, along with playing at a University like Notre Dame, it was something he couldn’t pass on in the end. Boykin holds 30 offers from USC, Clemson, Georgia and more.

What will Boykin bring to the secondary?

The 6-2 180 pound corner has outstanding size and great speed to go with his length. How he’s able to track the ball in the air and run stride for stride with his opponent speaks for itself in film. The biggest upside is his ability to play “up in your face” press coverage, and that comes with the territory of a 6-2’ defensive back. To me, he’s your proto typical corner that will be a huge boost for the Irish secondary. Again, the staff is looking for guys that can play on an island, be very physical and tackle in space, and that’s exactly what Boykin seems to bring on the field. The Irish have added great players in the secondary and Boykin continues that trend. From the back end of the defense being arguably the weakness for the Irish the past few years, there could be a very quick turn around with the players coming to South Bend. Great get at the finish line by the staff and being able to weed him out of a talented DB cycle this year. That should wrap up National Signing Day for Notre Dame. This one was unreal by the coaches. What a great day for the Irish!
